The teaching of Sociology began in 1974 as an elective subject in the B. A. (Pass) Programme. The Department of Sociology was established in 1987, with the introduction of the B.A. (Honours) Sociology Programme.

The Department offers a three-year, six-semester Undergraduate Course as following:

1. B. A. (Honours) Sociology
2. B. A. (Programme) with Sociology as an elective subject

The Department offers Skill Enhancement Courses and Discipline-Specific Courses to students of Sociology (Hons.) as well as B.A.Prog. The Department also offers Generic Elective courses to students pursuing B.A. (Hons.) in other disciplines as well as for students from B.A.(Prog.). Number of faculty members: 05 permanent, 04 adhoc
