Department of Botany
The Department of Botany, Sri Venkateswara College, was established in 1973 to teach the students of B.Sc. (Gen.) group B. With the introduction of B. Sc. (Honors) Botany course in 1974, the department expanded in terms of manpower as well infrastructure. Since its inception, faculty members of the department have been involved in teaching and mentoring students, as well as in pursuing research. They are highly experienced and adept at teaching and training students of B. Sc. (Hons.) Botany, B.Sc. (Prog.) Life Sciences, B. Sc. (Hons.) Biological Sciences and students from other departments who opt for Botany as their Generic Elective subjects. The department focuses on undergraduate teaching-learning and appropriately combines classical teaching with innovative digital teaching tools to augment students’ understanding of the subjects. Faculty members are involved in research in diverse areas of core as well as applied botany such as plant physiology, tissue culture, environmental monitoring, crop responses to climate change and nanoscience.
