NCC : Brief History
The National Cadet Corps was raised in January 1950 and was located at Delhi Cantt. To start with, it was named as Headquarters 7 Circle Cadet Corps and constituted the States of Rajasthan, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Union Territory of Delhi. In 1962, the Directorate was shifted to the Red Fort and was rechristened as NCC Directorate Delhi. Initially, this Directorate had 4 Group Headquarters and 26 NCC Units under its command. In July 1963, one Group HQ and 6 Units of the State of Himachal Pradesh were placed under the command of NCC Directorate Punjab. In 1977, Group HQ 'A' of this Directorate was disbanded. The Directorate now has two Group Headquarters with nine units each.
The National Cadet Corps is the largest uniformed youth organization open to all students on voluntary basis. It was raised on 15 July, 1948 and was the second line of defense during Indo-Pak war of 1965 and Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971.The motto of NCC is Unity and Discipline. The NCC aims at developing character, comradeship, discipline, a secular outlook, the spirit of adventure and ideals of selfless service amongst young citizens.The total time period to get the C certificate is 3 years NCC at Sri Venkateswara College was raised under 7 Delhi Battalion in the year 2020 with 11 cadets and Dr Jai Vinod as the first caretaker. The current strength of NCC is 27 cadets and the current caretaker is Dr Kameshwar Sharma. NCC conducts various activities like Blood Donation drives, cleanliness drives, celebrations of important days and many more.
