Convener, Model United Nations and Global Affairs Society SVC

About The Society : Introduction

Formed in 2019, the Model United Nations and Global Affairs Society of Sri Venkateswara College (MUNSOC SVC) has quickly proven its merit and established a reputation for quality orators, competitive delegates and inclusive and excellent events in the Delhi MUN circuit.

The MUN Society coordinates with various MUNs happening in and around Delhi, as well as pan-India conferences. At the same time, we train our members and help them develop their research and public speaking skills, sending competitive delegations to various conferences organised by different colleges and educational institutions.

About MUNs : Introduction

Model United Nations (MUN) is an academic and competitive simulation of the United Nations (UN) offering students and budding academics an opportunity to step into the role of diplomats and delegates, represent different countries which hold an important stake in a variety of international issues and not only learn more about these problems and the international system but also offer fresh perspectives and unique solutions to global problems of the contemporary era.

Model United Nations provides an understanding of the United Nations and contemporary global issues through quality deliberations emphasising collaboration and cooperative conflict resolution while preparing participants for active global citizenship. Cooperative, hands-on, experiential learning allows students to interact with a range of themes from the position of their assigned countries or organizations. MUNs offer students an excellent platform to network, develop an insightful understanding of international issues and geopolitics while fine-tuning their public speaking ability and soft skills.

Past Events

In October 2023, MUNSOC SVC organised SVC MUN ’23 2.0 – the society’s flagship event – which saw 5 different committee simulations dealing with riveting contemporary geo-political, economic and social issues and the participation of more than 190 delegates from 35+ colleges and schools.

In March 2024, MUNSOC SVC in collaboration with the Political Science Students Association organised Introspect MUN 2024 – a one-day single-committee MUN simulation on the theme of environmental conservation, climate action and human rights, witnessing a footfall of more than 40 delegates.

Achievements

The society regularly sends delegations to different MUNs organised in Delhi. Members of the society have participated in and secured awards at several reputed MUN conferences including MUNs organised by Delhi Technological University, Jesus and Mary College, Netaji Subhas University of Technology, Amity University Noida, Symbiosis Centre for Management Studies, Kirori Mal College, Janki Devi Memorial College, Vivekananda College, etc.

Some of our more experienced members have also been invited to chair and judge committees at well-known conferences, due to their proven excellence and significant presence in the Model UN circuit.

Other Activities

The society also holds regular training sessions to help the members learn about the important facets of international relations, global politics and multilateral diplomacy. Training sessions begin with the more general aspects of an MUN, including the rules of procedure and research skills but also cater to specific aspects such as international law, drafting of resolutions, analysis and articulation.

Vision and Objective

The Model United Nations society aims to create a space for healthy debate and constructive deliberations based on mutual respect, tolerance and criticality. In an increasingly complex world order, we hope to provide our members and the participants of our events an opportunity to closely examine and unravel the inherent complications and contradictions of contemporary issues and challenges. Based on the understanding that international politics and contemporary global challenges necessitate co-operation, compromise and peaceful reconciliation, the society remains committed to a culture of dialogue based on respect for mutual differences and conflicting ideas as well as opinions and arguments rooted in critical thinking and analysis.
