The Department of Botany was established in 1973 and has since grown into a hub of excellence in teaching and research. It is home to 15 distinguished faculty members with expertise across various branches of botany, supported by a dedicated team of 10 non-teaching staff. The department provides students with a comprehensive education through innovative methodologies and hands-on training, frequently organizing workshops to enhance practical learning. Special emphasis is also placed on integrating novel ICT tools to advance both teaching and research. Currently, the department houses three laboratories, a Botanical Museum, and a small research facility. Faculty and students also have access to modern amenities such as a tissue culture unit and open-top chambers, supporting practical exposure in contemporary areas of plant sciences. The department is committed to capacity building by imparting essential practical skills, shaping students into socially responsible scientists and citizens. Faculty members are actively engaged in publishing high-impact research articles in esteemed journals, contributing book chapters, and authoring popular science articles. Their research spans diverse fields, including plant physiology, ecology, molecular biology, and climate change.
