The Department of Political Science at Sri Venkateswara College, University of Delhi, established in 1973, has a rich history. Initially offering a foundational understanding of political science principles and theories to B.A. (Programme) students, the department later expanded to include the B.A. (Honours) programme to meet the growing demand for specialized political science education. This expansion marked a significant milestone, allowing students to delve deeper into political thought, systems, and processes. The rigorous and highly sought-after B.A. (Honours) programme in Political Science, originally a three-year intensive programme, is now a four-year programme under the New Education Policy 2020. This revised structure provides a more comprehensive and in-depth exploration of political science, incorporating contemporary issues and global perspectives. It emphasizes critical thinking, analytical abilities, and research methodologies, equipping students for the complexities of the political landscape. The curriculum encompasses political theory, philosophy, comparative politics, international relations, public administration, and Indian politics, providing a holistic perspective. Graduates are well-prepared for careers in academia, research, public service, journalism, and policy analysis. The rigorous training and emphasis on critical thinking provide a strong foundation for success. The department has ten experienced faculty members whose expertise enriches learning and provides student mentorship. Their research diversifies the department's intellectual atmosphere. Former faculty, including Dr. N Dwarkadas, Dr. P Sarojini Reddy, Mrs. P S Bharthi, Dr. ShivShankar Reddy, Dr. Lalita Jain, Dr. SP Thangvelu, and Dr. Jita Mishra, shaped the department's growth and continue to inspire current faculty and students.
